At Rātā Studios, we believe that creativity lives in everyone — it just needs the right space to shine. Our Visual Arts classes, which are offered after school and during holidays, are led by the talented and passionate Stephanie Woodman, and are designed to do just that.

Stephanie is a self-taught artist and dedicated full-time art tutor with over 27 years of experience. She has tutored in schools throughout New Zealand, and has a warm, encouraging style and creative approach that helps students of all ages unlock their artistic potential.

As Picasso once said, “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.” At Rātā, we celebrate that playful, instinctive creativity, and Stephanie helps find the artistic child in everyone she works with.

It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.

About Stephanie Woodman

Stephanie Woodman is a Wellington-based artist and full-time art tutor with nearly three decades of experience teaching children and adults across New Zealand. A self-taught artist, Stephanie has also trained teachers in visual arts education and is regularly invited to run workshops nationwide thanks to her engaging, accessible teaching style.

Working primarily in acrylics, Stephanie’s artwork is known for its dreamlike and vibrant quality — playful yet elegant, with a touch of whimsy surrealism. Her paintings invite viewers into imagined landscapes that feel both magical and strangely familiar, often sparking a sense of story or myth.

In the classroom, Stephanie has a unique gift for drawing out the creative potential in every student. Her classes are practical, inspiring, and always grounded in strong technique. She delights in helping students see the world through a new lens and confidently explore their own artistic voice.
