In Blind Faith

What’s it about: In Blind Faith is a queer, diverse Faustian tale set in the New Zealand goldfields, where not all that glitters is gold. It follows Edith Waterford as she tries to make her fortune at the goldfields, encountering three enticing people who represent three ideologies along the way, all while falling in love with simple gold miner Penny.

How I got involved: Last year my friend Cadence Chung asked me to come along to a read-through of a musical she wrote. I was enamoured with the characters and story and by my luck she asked me to help out with auditions and then with co-directing (along with fellow student Iris Broadley) It was such a fun experience putting on In Blind Faith last year at Wellington High School and when we realised we were both attending Victoria University together, Cadence suggested we put it on again, but more professionally. So Cadence and I along with fellow director Lewis Thompson, got funding from Creative New Zealand, the Tung Jung Association, plus money from a booster campaign.

We have a wonderful cast of diverse and creative people and putting the show on at BATS Theatre August 23-27 which I am super excited about. It’s been really wonderful getting to work with all the talented people involved and create a new version of In Blind Faith.
