Music Production Tutor

Luis Rodriguez is an audio-visual professional and musical artist with over 20 years of experience in music production, audio engineering and sound design. His extensive portfolio between Latin America and New Zealand includes work on films like Uproar and Yotama se va Volando to documentaries, short films and collaborations with varied musical artists. Luis has also tutored and lectured at the University of Otago.

After finishing his studies in Music Production and Sound, Luis studied music composition with renowned pianist and Latin Grammy Nominee Gerry Weil back in Caracas, Venezuela. After this venture, he produced, performed and released music with many different artists like Wahala, Sur Carabela, Agente Extraño, Roñettes, and La Sonata Matraka, amongst others.

After moving to Dunedin in 2015, Luis worked from his home studio recording and mixing local bands and artists like Braden Southee, Tomahawk Radio, and Pretty Trippy. He also had the chance to perform alongside Kiwi jazz legends Trevor Coleman and Edwina Thorne.

His music has been featured in various projects, from TV programs to advertising, compilations, and documentaries and since 2019, he’s been working with US-based software developer Soundiron as a music composer and beta tester for their virtual instruments.

Luis’s expertise also extends to recording engineering for award-winning podcast series The Secret History of Flight 149 and The Secret History of the Estonia, as well as dialogue editing for video games such as SmiteRelayer, and Dread Hunger.
