Art for Adults
Layers of Expression – Mixed-Media Mark-Making and Painting
Join us in our welcoming, warm, and creative studio. In this course, you are invited to unplug, let loose, make marks, sling paint, learn, and create! You’ll be guided and supported throughout. As well as your very own unique creations, you will come away with new skills that can help elevate your mixed-media art, as well as your broader creative practice.
We’ll work with a range of media including ink, charcoal, pencil, pastel, collage, and paint. Each class will have a theme, and be structured to explore different aspects of mixed-media making. There will be prompts to get you started, demonstrations, and plenty of tips, techniques, and tools to try out.
The goal of this class is to deepen your creative reservoir and be able to create art more freely. This means releasing expectations, being curious, making more instinctual choices, and exploring your unique style. This class is not about making photorealistic end products; rather, it focuses on the creative process and being open to discoveries – think gestural, expressive, states of flow. There are no mistakes here; perfectionism is a trap.
Taught by Brighid Jamieson who is passionate about the importance of nurturing creativity, both as individuals and in community. She wholeheartedly believes that the act of making is a powerful way to connect with ourselves – and when we come together to connect and make – magic is possible. There is nothing quite like real humans showing up, rolling up their sleeves, and cheering each other on.
For me, art isn’t about perfection—it’s about exploration, expression, and the pure joy of making something with your own hands. I’d love to share that journey with you.
