Violin with Hijiri Yamamoto

About Hijiri Yamamoto

Hijiri has been immersed in the world of music since the age of seven when her journey began. It all started with the fortuitous opportunity of receiving free violin lessons at her primary school, which sparked her passion for the instrument. Captivated by the joy of playing, she embarked on her musical education through the renowned Suzuki method.

Through the Suzuki method, Hijiri discovered the pleasure of playing the violin and the exhilaration of collaborating with other musicians. Following this, she earned a scholarship to the Pettman National Junior Academy, where she had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of Stephen Larsen.

Throughout her time, Hijiri found her passion in orchestral and chamber settings. She was the concertmaster of NZSSSO in 2018 and was the associate concertmaster of the CYO for two years. She has had the opportunity to perform with the CSO as well as the NZSO NYO for three years.

Hijiri pursued a Bachelor of Music in Classical Performance at the University of Canterbury, where she received invaluable guidance from the esteemed Mark Menzies. During this time, she ventured into the world of Baroque music and was the founding violinist of the Seasoning Ensemble.

Throughout her musical journey, She has come to appreciate the profound impact that a nurturing and supportive teacher can have on a student’s growth. She is inspired by her own experiences and hopes to impart her knowledge, skills and passion to aspiring violinists of all ages.

She has recently moved to Wellington, warmly welcomed by the vibrant music scene and has been a part of the Gallery Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington and pursuing freelance opportunities.
