Lego Animation | Ages 8-12
Animate your own LEGO movies to show off to family and friends. By combining the classic technique of stop motion LEGO animation and everyone’s favourite lock-together-bricks, students will create original short stories, sets, and characters.
All LEGO bricks will be provided, please do not send your child to class with LEGO from home.
Students’ short films will be sent digitally to parents at the completion of the course.
Course Outline:
Session 1:
Walk Cycle
Making a LEGO mini-figure walk is harder than it looks, learn the technique for fluid movement
Session 2:
Parody vs Copyright
Explore the differences between parody and copyright as you turn a classic story on it's head.
Session 3:
Character Design
Create custom costumes for your mini-figures Show character emotion using static bricks
Session 4:
Set Building
Write an original short story with a beginning, middle, and end Build a set and background for your final animation
Session 5-7:
Animate Final Projects
Session 8: Foley
Record original sound effects for your animations Parents are invited to our Animation Show at the end of the session.

Jess Weichler
Jess Weichler is a media arts educator at the MakerBox.
Ever since childhood she has been creating digital worlds through game design. Aside from a few lessons learnt from her 8-year old students, she is self-taught in the Scratch programming language, the Processing java subset, and a robotic Hummingbird micro-controller. She has taught these skills since 2012, and her courses are still in use both locally and abroad in the United States.
