WELLSO (Summer Orchestra Intensive)

From 10th to 14th January Rata Studios School of Music is hosting 5 days of orchestral and chamber music workshops. Come and have a Summer holiday with a difference and enjoy playing music with like-minded adults from around New Zealand, here in Wellington.

Based on the principles of our Wellington Late Starters Orchestra (WELLSO),  no audition is required and we welcome players of all abilities. We will most likely have two orchestras , one for grades 1 to 4 levels approx. and one from grade 5 upwards but following the principles of WELLSO we will also be playing some pieces all together as one larger orchestra with music arranged according to levels.

We will be contracting top level NZ professional musicians to come and coach and conduct. Already confirmed is Doug Beilman who played for 30 years in the New Zealand String Quartet. He has an amazing wealth of experience and we are delighted he is joining us for the week.

Also joining us will be Brenton Veitch, Principal Cellist of Orchestra Wellington and occasional cellist with NZSO and Belinda Veitch, Viola player with the NZSO.

Further professional conductors and coaches to be confirmed.

The programme will be based at Scots College in Wellington which has recently built, state of the art teaching and rehearsal spaces.

Tea, coffee and lunches are provided.

We hope you can join us for some fantastic music making. It’s a great opportunity to advance your orchestral skills and repertoire in a relaxed and friendly environment.
