About Marcus Gurtner

Marcus have recording experience as part of many bands (past and present), and has participated in multiple tours around New Zealand. He has also played at festivals in N’Djamena, Chad (Africa) with local musicians. 

He prides himself on being a versatile drummer/musician with a good grasp of many genres. This has resulted from participation in many different settings and bands, playing many different styles. This continues to be informed through his study at the New Zealand School of Music. He has lots of experience playing with click and backing tracks live, as well as using hybrid drum kits and trigger systems which employ the use of electronic and acoustic sounds/components. He is also competent using software and samples to program drum tracks, build backing tracks, and compose music. 

Marcus is incredibly supportive and will do his absolute best to encourage anyone willing to spend time practicing their instrument. Lessons will be catered to both the needs and wants of the student, with a huge emphasis placed on having fun. Attention will also be paid to the development of the students unique voice on his/her instrument. No one will ever sound like you, so let’s embrace that individuality and explore it!
