About Claire McSweeney
We are very pleased to have Claire McSweeney on the teaching team at Rata School of Music.
Claire is a violinist studying under Helene Pohl from the NZSQ at the New Zealand School of Music . She was born in Wellington into a musical family (all play the violin!), and began Suzuki violin lessons with Lynley Culliford at age 5. Claire loves performing, and plays in the string quartet ‘Rhombus’, who recently won the Troubadour scholarship with Chamber Music New Zealand. Being rooted in the Suzuki method, Claire is undergoing the teacher training programme, but has taught in both Traditional and Suzuki methods.
Claire is passionate about music, and how it can help us express ourselves, tell stories, and widen our emotional scope. She loves working with students of all ages, and guiding them in their musical experiences. She particularly enjoys developing her teaching approach to suit the needs of the student so that the learning experience is as effective and enjoyable as it can be.
